Is Zirconium Dental Veneers healthier or Porcelain Lamina Veneers?

When we say aesthetic smile design application, our two first applications that come to mind are zirconium dental veneers and porcelain lamina dental veneers. So what is the difference between the two is the most common question we receive from our patients. As dentists, we frequently use both of them to achieve an aesthetic smile. Both methods are preferred according to the suitability of the case. Both are very aesthetic and healthy methods. Zirconium veneer is a type of prosthesis that is covered with a white, special metal and covered with aesthetic ceramic (porcelain), which we can apply on all front and back teeth. Compared to porcelain laminates, much more tooth cutting and reduction is required. In this process, tooth tissue loss is higher. For this reason, we use it in cases such as deep caries, large tooth fractures, etc., which cause excessive loss of material in the dental tissue in patients, teeth with root canal treatment, severely discolored and worn teeth, to close the opened root surfaces in individuals with melted jawbone and gingival recession, in patients with severe diastemas (gaps) in the teeth, to cover weak teeth that are likely to break, to correct teeth in cases with excessive crowding and in cases where it is not possible to level them with porcelain laminate coating. Since the workmanship in dental laboratories is slightly less sensitive than porcelain lamina, it is a more affordable method to achieve aesthetics. Porcelain Lamina Veneers are 3-4 mm thick and are highly aesthetic materials. The laboratory workmanship is much more precise and the material is more expensive than zirconium, so it is a higher priced treatment type. Since very few teeth are cut, it is the maximum aesthetic and healthy smile design technique that we can achieve with minimum tooth tissue loss. When done in good hands and with the right dental laboratories, it cannot be distinguished from natural teeth. Light transmittance is quite good. This technique can be used in patients with a good upper and lower jaw bite relationship, in teeth without advanced decay, fracture, abrasion and excessive discoloration, in patients with mild and moderate crowding, in patients with gaps in their teeth, in order to close the gaps. If we come to the question of which of the two techniques is better, if you meet the conditions required for us to perform Dental Lamina Veneers and if the difference in cost between the two techniques is economically acceptable to you, we, as Dr. Tansu Uzel Aesthetic and Dental Clinic, recommend you to have Dental Lamina Veneers first because we can reach the maximum aesthetic smile design with the most protected system, where the teeth are cut to the minimum extent, thus prolonging the life of the teeth. However, if you cannot meet the conditions for Dental Lamina Veneers and the difference in cost is not tolerable for you, we recommend Zircoyum Dental Veneers. We would like to state that we can achieve highly aesthetic results with both techniques.
